Root Canals in New Jersey

What is Root Canal Treatment?

If you are experiencing symptoms such as a darkened tooth, prolonged tooth sensitivity, swelling in the gums or face, an abscess, persistent tooth pain, and a damaged tooth, these are all signs of a tooth infection.

Your tooth can become infected when you have untreated tooth decay which penetrates deeper through the tooth and eventually reaches the inner pulp layer. It can also become infected or damaged due to dental trauma which causes inflammation in the dental pulp.

The best dental restorative treatment for an infected or damaged tooth is a root canal. This treatment is 95% successful at restoring a tooth’s health and preventing tooth extraction. For those in Hoboken, learn more about our specialized root canal treatment in Hoboken to receive local expert care.

It involves replacing the inner layer of the tooth which contains the infected pulp and roots with a permanent filling and protecting the tooth with a dental crown. Contact us at BOOM Smiles Group today to schedule a consultation.

A dental crown is not always necessary but is recommended to protect the rear molars which are at higher risk of damage.

Types of Root Canals

View our services

Anterior

This is a root canal performed in the front teeth, which are much smaller than the rear teeth. This can make the procedure more complex because there is less surface area to work with and gaining access to the pulp chamber is more difficult since we have to drill into the lingual side of the tooth.

However, these teeth have 1 to 2 canals which makes the cleaning process much speedier and may require fewer appointments. A dental crown is usually not needed to protect these teeth because they don’t undergo as much chewing force.

Posterior

This is a root canal performed in the rear teeth, where there are up to 4 canals per tooth. This makes the pulpectomy and canal cleaning process much longer and we may need to split this between two appointments. However, these teeth have increased surface area and we can drill into the chewing surface of the tooth which gets us better access to the dental pulp. We highly recommend protecting these teeth with dental crowns.

Is a Root Canal Painful?

No, a root canal is completely painless because we use a combination of anesthetic and sedation when desired to make you as comfortable as possible. Even if you have dental anxiety, we can make you fully relaxed and you won’t remember anything afterward. Tooth infections can be very painful and root canal therapy is effective at eliminating this pain.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Anyone who has a tooth infection with a tooth that is still salvageable is the ideal candidate for a root canal. You must have the condition that makes root canals necessary (infection or damage to the tooth’s dental pulp) but sometimes the infection has been left untreated for too long and this requires removal of the tooth.
